Ballard House Birth Center
About Us
Ballard House is named in honor of Martha Ballard, a midwife who attended over 800 births in the late 1700's and early 1800's in the Augusta/Hallowell area of Maine. Our birth center is dedicated to her memory and formidable abilities.

Founded on the guidelines established by the National Association of Childbearing Centers, we ensure appropriate and safe care. Our practitioners also maintain excellent communications with outstanding local physicians and area hospitals should consultation, referral or transfer of care be necessary.

Ballard House has spacious home - like suites where women can give birth in private and intimate surroundings. You are encouraged to wear your own clothes, bring your own food and create a space that is personal and familiar. We offer women a chance to reclaim birth through the support of caring providers who honor birth as a unique life event. At Ballard House you are respected as an individual whose beliefs and viewpoints are valued.

We welcome all pregnant and parenting women, their families and friends who seek to learn and share in a supportive, enriching environment. With ongoing group meetings and events, Ballard House strives to promote family and community wellness.

Ballard House provides the people and resources to help you make informed choices about birth and parenting and to give insight into the changes happening in your life. Believing that education is the basis for successful birth and parenting, Ballard House offers a lending library, courses and lectures.
